Optimizing New Product Concept Selection Decisions Considering Life Cycle Design Attributes

Abstract—Concept selection is one of the most important phases in product development process. In this process, product life cycle issues need be taken into consideration. However, effective strategies for considering life cycle issues in concept selection have not been fully explored in the existing literature. In this paper, we discuss the importance of considering product life cycle design attributes in concept selection process by investigating the current literature regarding product design and life cycle issues. Then a fuzzy based decision-making and optimization framework is proposed to select the best alternative concept considering life cycle design attributes. Finally a numerical example is presented to better illustration of proposed methodology.
